How are the environment, society and economy related?
One view, which is losing supporters by the day, is the ‘mickey mouse’ model, where the economy is the main thing, the environment and people are add-ons.
Growing numbers of people are now coming to realise that the ‘bulls eye’ model is much closer to reality. The economy is a part of society, and society is a part of the environment. Thinking about it this way, it’s obvious that it’s essential to look after the environment if we want a thriving society and economy.
There is another model which fits in between these two, where the three aspects are given equal standing:
This concept is obviously better than the Micky Mouse model, because it accepts that the environment and society are important and related. However it doesn’t reflect the basic fact that society is built on, and couldn’t exist without, the environment, and likewise the economy couldn’t exist without society.

If you are ready to be disturbed, inspired and moved to action, find out more about the symposium.

Symposiums are all organised and run by volunteers like me, so entry fees are only to cover costs. I highly recommend attending an Awakening the Dreamer symposium. The best part for me was talking to other participants about our shared hopes and fears for the future of humans on this planet. It’s very rare you get to have those kind of discussions in everyday life. It was actually a relief to find so many other people who are just as passionate, and talk to them face to face.
